PILLOWCASES: The smoothness of our silk pillowcases allows your skin to glide, whereas cotton and polyester grip and scratch the delicate facial skin, contributing to premature stretching and skin creasing. Silk also allows the hair and skin to breath and maintains a cool surface temperature keeping you comfortable all night. Eyelash extension and hair extension wearers experience a significant reduction in overnight shedding, breakage, matting and eyelash damage. Even men with beards or hair loss can benefit from sleeping on silk as silk will not snag and kink facial hair.
Dermatologists agree that cotton and synthetic fabrics dry out the hair and skin. They twist your hair as you sleep, causing tangles and breakage over time. Most other fabrics wick moisture from the skin and will absorb the quality skin products you are investing in. Silk on the other hand , won’t absorb your expensive creams.
SCRUNCHIES: Our silk scrunchies protect your ponytail while keeping it secure. Unlike conventional ponytail elastics and cotton scrunchies they firmly but tenderly hold hair in place while preventing hair breakage and reducing « ponytail kink » They can be used to create the perfect messy bun, they look sweet and elegant and make perfect gifts.
We have selected silk suppliers that meet the very stringent international Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 for fabric safety.
If you purchase a cheaper silk pillowcase online or in-store, you may not know what you’re really buying.
When it comes to silk you get what you pay for. Cheap silk may simply not pass the safety and quality testing our suppliers have taken the time to enforce or it may simply be a silk imitation fabric.
Our pillowcases and scrunchies have a shiny, charmeuse finish, so they feel smooth and luxurious. Other non-charmeuse products lack any health and beauty benefits. Silk is easily replicated by other "fake" synthetic products like satin and viscose. We have taken great measures to ensure we are offering the real thing.
Made from 100% pure mulberry silk with a thickness of 19 momme, our pillowcases are the very best available in Canada. Our products have been tested for 100% authenticity as there are many imitation fabrics on the market and our consumers can easily be duped into buying imitation silk.
Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, ecological and 100% biodegradable.
Silk is a natural fibre, whereas a silk imitator such as ‘satin’ is a petroleum based, synthetic material. Satin takes up to 200 years to biodegrade, it is thinner, it ‘sweats’,and becomes rough and pills overtime, essentially negating the positive benefits of sleeping on a smooth pillowcase. The smooth, charmeuse silk finish of our product is superior in that it’s more ecological, softer and breathes. Satin is a synthetic fabric, otherwise known as polyester. It does have shine and feels soft, but simply does not offer the same benefits on a microscopic level.
Momme is the measurement indicating the weight of the silk. The thicker or heavier the silk, the more it drapes, the softer it feels and the longer it lasts. We have selected 19 Momme as our economical option for our products because of it's lightness, softness and affordability. We also offer pillowcases in out premium 22momme silk for its added weight, lustre and durability.

We get asked all of the time where our pillowcases are manufactured. Our answer is similar to the majority of silk beauty pillowcases. We source our silk and manufacturer our cases in China. Why on earth is this? Why would a Canadian company not source or manufacture their silk products closer to home? Below we answer this question and provide reasons why you can buy from us with confidence.
EXPERTISE:
China produces 78% of the worlds silk and has been producing silk for 5000 years. It's an ancient tradition. In some areas of China families cultivate their own silk moths and make bedding and clothing themselves from silk. It's a skill set not found in North America
Other countries such as India and other Eastern countries produce silk on some scale, typically in lighter weaves used for clothing, saris and scarves. The tradition spread from China to these countries.
CLIMATE
Eastern countries have the appropriate climate for sericulture (the growing and cultivating of silk from Bombyx Mori silk moths.) and they also have the weather to grow Mulberry; the moths favourite food. Canada's Harsh winters could simply not support the volume of plants needed to produce silk from mulberry and the silk Moth has a natural range from Northern India to Northern China.
MANUFACTURING
Since silk is so commonly produced in China the pricing for manufacturing in competitive, we have been working with the same textile company for 5 years, their facility meets our expectations for safety and employment standards, quality control and safe dying practices. They also work with us to source the most ecological packaging options, so we can reduce our carbon footprint.
OUR EFFORTS AT LOCAL PRODUCTION
In 2019 we set out on a mission to produce locally here were some of the obstacles we faced.
1. We still would have had to import large quantities of Charmeuse silk fabric from China as it is not woven in North America. So essentially the silk still comes from China
2. We were not able to find a textiles manufacturer that could specialize in building silk pillowcases. Canadians textile companies focus mostly on performance fabrics.
3. We then went to a local couturier to explore small scale production. The costs for production was so high we would have to charge approximately $150.00 per pillowcase.

Even though our products do come from China, we are a small, 100% female owned, Canadian, not found on Amazon, ethically operated and ecologically aware company. Our packaging is 100% biodegradable/recyclable and we ship in eco-packaging. We love our customers and are confidently stand behind the quality of our products.
Here are some ways in which you can care for your La Seda mulberry silk pillowcase and scrunchies.
A clean face before sleep is good for both you and your pillowcase.
Our products are machine washable, however handwashing will prolong the life of your La Seda silk pillowcase and scrunchies.
Use a PH balanced or "delicate" laundry detergent, wash in cool water and do not wring your pillowcase tightly. In order to remove excess water we recommend rolling you pillowcase in a clean towel.
When Machine washing, wash in a delicate cycle with cold water.
Do not use bleach products. Do not wash with items that have velcro, zippers, studs or other sharp details.
We recommend the use of a garment bag.
Lay flat or hang to dry. Natural air drying in the shade is best. Tumble drying will lead to more wrinkles, less lustre and possible pilling.
Make sure to iron or steam your pillowcase on a low heat setting.
Silk is a natural product and its colour may change with time, use, hair, product, hair dye, skin products and perspiration.
Your pillowcase is dry-cleanable.
We warrant our silk pillowcases against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for 6 months from date of purchase. This warranty covers faulty construction but does not cover normal wear, damage from improper care, or cosmetic changes from regular use.
You will need your original order number to fulfill a warranty issue.

If you receive a damaged or faulty item, please contact us within 14 days of delivery for a replacement. You will ned your order number to fulfill a return or exchange.
If you change your mind and wish to exchange an item for a different colour, that's no problem.
To be eligible, your item must be unused and returned within 30 days of purchase. Please use a trackable shipping method, as we cannot be responsible for missing incoming deliveries.
The goods must be unused/worn, in the same condition you received them in and they must also be in the original packaging.
We may charge a small freight fee to dispatch your replacement, depending on your location.
