La Seda Featured on Shop Local Canada

I have some happy news to share, and it feels like one of those small business moments I will remember for a long time: Shop Local Canada.

If you have followed along for a while, you know La Seda started in 2018 as a one-woman project. It still is. I inspect every order myself, answer your emails, pack the boxes, and take care of the little details that make each parcel feel thoughtful when it arrives.

So when a directory built to celebrate Canadian small businesses welcomes you in, it feels personal. It feels like someone saw the work.

When I found out La Seda had been accepted, I had one of those quiet, joyful moments where you just sit with the news for a second. I made a cup of tea, reread the message, and let myself feel proud before going right back to packing orders.

What is Shop Local Canada?

Shop Local Canada is a curated directory of Canadian shops and Made in Canada products. Its purpose is simple and useful: make it easier for people across Canada to find and support local shops.

The site does this through:

  • A Canadian business directory

  • Gift guides

  • Made in Canada shopping guides

  • Provincial and city-based browsing

  • Product category browsing

That means you can look for shops close to home, browse by the kind of product you want, or discover small brands online that you may not have found otherwise.

The site was started by Amy, who wanted one place to find unique local shops in small towns, big cities, and online spaces across Canada. That idea really resonates with me.

So many Canadian business owners are doing beautiful work, often quietly and with limited resources. Larger companies can easily take over our feeds and search results because they have bigger budgets. Small businesses do not always have that same reach, even when the quality, care, and story behind the product are deeply meaningful.

That is part of what makes Shop Local Canada special. It gives people a way to find the makers, shop owners, and small brands that might otherwise be missed.

Shop Local Canada features more than 500 Canadian shops and brands, with more added weekly. They only feature Canadian businesses, prioritize Made in Canada products, and there is no fee to be featured. That last part matters because it keeps the directory accessible to small businesses at different stages.

For a small brand like La Seda, being included feels like more than a listing. It feels like being welcomed into a wider community of Canadian entrepreneurs who care deeply about what they make and how they serve their customers.

Getting to share the La Seda story

As part of the application process, I answered a short interview about La Seda. It turned out to be a lovely chance to put into words why I started this brand in the first place.

La Seda began with conversations I was having with clients in my beauty business about their self-care routines. I have always believed that the little things we do every day can make us feel more cared for. Not in a complicated way. Not in a way that requires a full schedule reset. Just small choices that make your day feel softer, calmer, and more intentional.

Silk fit naturally into that idea.

A silk pillowcase is a small item, but it can become part of a daily ritual. You use it every night. You feel it against your skin. You notice the difference in how gentle it feels. It is not loud or showy. It just quietly becomes one of those things you look forward to at the end of the day.

That is the feeling I wanted La Seda to have from the beginning.

I did not start with a big team, a warehouse, or a complicated plan. I started with a belief that simple, well-made pieces can make everyday routines feel special. I wanted to offer products that felt beautiful, practical, and easy to bring into real life.

Over time, La Seda grew order by order, conversation by conversation. Some customers found us through a friend. Some came from my beauty business. Some discovered La Seda while looking for Canadian small businesses to support. Every order has mattered.

That may sound sentimental, but it is true. When you are a one-woman business, nothing feels anonymous. I see the names. I notice the returning customers. I remember kind messages. I know when someone is buying a gift. I know when someone is treating themselves after thinking about it for a while.

Those details are part of the work.

Why this feature feels meaningful

Being featured on Shop Local Canada feels meaningful because it connects La Seda with people who are already looking to shop with care.

There is something different about a customer who intentionally searches for Canadian shops. They are often looking for more than a product. They want to know where it comes from. They want to support real people. They want their purchase to have a little more connection behind it.

That is not to say every purchase has to be deeply personal. Sometimes you just need a gift, a pillowcase, or something lovely for yourself. But when you can find that item from a small Canadian brand, it does feel different.

For La Seda, this feature is also a reminder of how much has happened since 2018.

There have been late nights, learning curves, careful decisions, and many moments of figuring things out as I go. There have been product photos to take, packaging details to choose, inventory to manage, messages to answer, and orders to send.

Some parts of small business are beautiful. Some parts are repetitive. Some parts are stressful. Most parts are done quietly, without much fanfare.

That is why moments like this stand out.

A feature on a Canadian shopping directory may sound simple on paper, but to a small business owner, it can feel like a hand on your shoulder. It says, “Keep going. People are finding you. The work is reaching someone.”

That means a lot.

The beauty of shopping small in Canada

One of the things I love about Shop Local Canada is how easy it makes discovery feel.

Shopping local is not always as simple as wanting to support small businesses. You still need to find them. You need to know what they offer. You need to trust that the shop is real, active, and aligned with what you are looking for.

A directory helps with that.

Instead of relying only on search engines or whatever happens to appear in your feed, you can browse intentionally. You might search by province. You might look for a certain type of gift. You might find a maker in another part of Canada whose work feels exactly right for someone you love.

That kind of discovery is good for shoppers, and it is also good for small businesses.

Small brands often grow through word of mouth, repeat customers, local support, and thoughtful features like this one. Every bit of visibility helps. Every new person who discovers the brand creates a little more possibility.

And when people choose to shop small, the impact is often felt directly.

It helps someone order more materials. It helps someone continue creating. It helps someone pay for packaging, shipping supplies, product development, market fees, website costs, and all the things customers may never see.

Most of all, it helps small business owners keep doing the work they care about.

What this means for La Seda

For La Seda, being featured on Shop Local Canada is both a milestone and an encouragement.

It does not change the heart of the brand. I am still here behind the scenes, checking orders, answering emails, and packing boxes. The process is still personal. The care is still hands-on.

But it does open a new door.

It means more people across Canada may discover La Seda while they are looking for thoughtful gifts, everyday luxuries, or Canadian small businesses to support. It means the brand gets to sit alongside other independent shops with their own stories, values, and communities.

That feels special.

I am proud that La Seda has grown in a way that still feels true to how it began. Slow, careful, and personal. I am proud that the products have found their way into homes across Canada. I am proud of the customers who have supported this brand, shared it with friends, and returned again.

Most of all, I am grateful.

Grateful for every order. Grateful for every kind message. Grateful for the people who choose to support small shops when they could easily choose something faster or more familiar.

And now, grateful to be part of Shop Local Canada.

A heartfelt thank you

If you have been part of La Seda’s story in any way, thank you.

Thank you for placing an order, telling a friend, leaving a kind note, opening an email, or simply following along. Small businesses are built through many small acts of support, and none of them go unnoticed.

This feature is a happy piece of news, but it also belongs to the people who have helped La Seda grow since 2018.

Being included on Shop Local Canada is a reminder that small work still matters. Care still matters. Thoughtful products still matter. And Canadian small businesses deserve to be found.

I am so happy to share this moment with you.
